English learning at our school just got a whole lot more flavorful! This week, the English Society hosted its highly anticipated CCA Day highlight: Tacos Wednesday. It wasn’t just about the food; it was about bringing the English language to life through a hands-on cultural journey.

The event transformed our workspace into a bustling “Cocina,” where students stepped away from textbooks and into a vibrant, English-speaking culinary environment. The English Society members didn’t just eat; they engaged in a full cultural food experience.

Key highlights of the session included:

  • Vocabulary in Action: From “zesty” cilantro to “savory” seasoned meat, students expanded their descriptive adjectives while following recipe guides in English.
  • Cultural Discovery: Beyond the shell, students learned about the history of Mexican street food and the importance of communal dining in Latin culture.
  • Collaborative Cooking: Working in teams, students practiced their communication skills, giving instructions and sharing tips—all in English!
